Construction
I started of using adobe elements as the digital platform in
which to construct my film, I found it extremely slow, time consuming, out of
date in terms of ability to manipulate the film scenes. I also knew in the back
of my mind that the media convergence was not suitable for an iPhone. I had the
option of using an old video recorder or my own iPhone 5s camera with retina
display, I used my iPhone as I knew I was going to be in the environment of a
rave so the reality of holding a video camcorder was void. At first I held the
iPhone vertical, not knowing that I couldn't rotate it on adobe to landscape,
so my filming with Niamh was not usable, even though it was extremely good, so
I had to make sure I was holding my phone horizontal when filming in the
future.
At first I tried emailing the clips off my phone to my
computer, I worked out that this was the reason for my low quality production,
the graininess and the pixelated scenes really didn't match with my phones
display, so I decided to download the clips onto a memory stick and transfer
them onto my computer, giving crystal clear results.
I got fed up of using adobe elements as I felt it wasn't
showing my maximum ability, so I changed to iMovie which for me personally was
a big challenge because I had never used an apple mac before in my life, so
even using the mouse was difficult at first. It allowed me to crop my scenes
with ease, add non diagetic music in, add effects such as x-ray effect too add
emotion to my scenes, it allowed me to manipulate to speed of the clips and
also the direction the scenes went such as forward or reverse, the sound was
also easy to manipulate as many options were available which made the sound
seem far away, close or generally emphasised, I learnt how to add text onto a
scene also. I learnt so many skills using iMovie I didn't think it was
possible.
Not horizontal.
I found that using media convergence between apple products worked extremely well given clear results as quickly as possible.
Music
I used brand new technology when producing the soundtrack for my short film, I asked my cousin to show me the ropes of producing music and converting it to what I want. Ben played the piano through a microphone in a soundproof studio, this was connected to logic software, logic pro 9, which was then open for manipulation where I used a crescendo (fade in) and a diminuendo (fade out), I then bounced the track which is where I converted I into an mp3 track for use with my film as it is now compatible.
Research and planning
The web 2.0 was the main tool I used when trying to figure out the conventions of short films, by watching short films on vimeo and you tube I was able to learn from them and add elements of conventions into my film.
However the research of my audience did not use any new media technologies, I used my own experience and knowledge in working out how to represent them.
Evaluation
In order to show that I am adapt to technology, I have used a range of presentation skills to base my evaluation upon, such as prezi and slide share. These software pieces were brand new to me and therefore took me quite a while to figure out how to use them but once I did it was fine, the hardest bit was embedding the file into a blog, but after a few practices it was easy.
