EVALUATION QUESTION 4 - HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION & RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES.

Construction

I started of using adobe elements as the digital platform in which to construct my film, I found it extremely slow, time consuming, out of date in terms of ability to manipulate the film scenes. I also knew in the back of my mind that the media convergence was not suitable for an iPhone. I had the option of using an old video recorder or my own iPhone 5s camera with retina display, I used my iPhone as I knew I was going to be in the environment of a rave so the reality of holding a video camcorder was void. At first I held the iPhone vertical, not knowing that I couldn't rotate it on adobe to landscape, so my filming with Niamh was not usable, even though it was extremely good, so I had to make sure I was holding my phone horizontal when filming in the future.
At first I tried emailing the clips off my phone to my computer, I worked out that this was the reason for my low quality production, the graininess and the pixelated scenes really didn't match with my phones display, so I decided to download the clips onto a memory stick and transfer them onto my computer, giving crystal clear results.

I got fed up of using adobe elements as I felt it wasn't showing my maximum ability, so I changed to iMovie which for me personally was a big challenge because I had never used an apple mac before in my life, so even using the mouse was difficult at first. It allowed me to crop my scenes with ease, add non diagetic music in, add effects such as x-ray effect too add emotion to my scenes, it allowed me to manipulate to speed of the clips and also the direction the scenes went such as forward or reverse, the sound was also easy to manipulate as many options were available which made the sound seem far away, close or generally emphasised, I learnt how to add text onto a scene also. I learnt so many skills using iMovie I didn't think it was possible.

Not horizontal.

I found that using media convergence between apple products worked extremely well given clear results as quickly as possible.

Music

I used brand new technology when producing the soundtrack for my short film, I asked my cousin to show me the ropes of producing music and converting it to what I want. Ben played the piano through a microphone in a soundproof studio, this was connected to logic software, logic pro 9, which was then open for manipulation where I used a crescendo (fade in) and a diminuendo (fade out), I then bounced the track which is where I converted I into an mp3 track for use with my film as it is now compatible.

Research and planning

The web 2.0 was the main tool I used when trying to figure out the conventions of short films, by watching short films on vimeo and you tube I was able to learn from them and add elements of conventions into my film.
However the research of my audience did not use any new media technologies, I used my own experience and knowledge in working out how to represent them.

Evaluation

In order to show that I am adapt to technology, I have used a range of presentation skills to base my evaluation upon, such as prezi and slide share. These software pieces were brand new to me and therefore took me quite a while to figure out how to use them but once I did it was fine, the hardest bit was embedding the file into a blog, but after a few practices it was easy.

Evaluation question 3 - WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?

Audience Feedback from holliehogan

Overall feedback
The feedback I received such as "your original idea was better" about the idea to put my brother as the one who dies not the dad, really was a depressing comment because in my head I knew what my film would look like and in reality it didn't come off, so that's why feedback is important as it cement s your own thoughts.
I used platforms such as web 2.0, Facebook as most of my audience use the virtual world alot more than the real world and face to face questions after of course, watching my film. The Facebook feedback was from my friends which adds a slight element of bias, however they seemed very genuine comments and in real life they told me how good they thought it was and that they didn't expect it to be that good. The face to face questions were the best form of feedback in my opinion as I got to see the persons reactions when watching the film, whenever there was a confused face at the start when the sherbet lemon appeared, it was rectified at the end, showing that my mysterious enigma created the desired effect.

Evaluation question 2 - HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS?

The photographs

The photograph on my review page shows Harriett posing onto on a bin next to council flats, wearing  shell suit looking deep into the camera lens. Although the camera angle is low, Harriett is not superior as she is standing on a bin, superficial superiority. Just like how she thinks drugs make her superior when in fact they don't.
The darkness reflects the film brilliantly as the whole film is set at night time apart from the last scenes, This dark effect also compliments the dark tones of the film. This picture reflects the deprivation element of her life which is shown in the film, deprivation is the link.

The photograph on the poster represents the film well also as the character is wearing clothing that is seen in the film aswell as also being at night time in the darkness, keeping the dark theme going. The ravescene and mind boggling drugs are evident here by the use of photography skills, drugs and the rave are the link from this photo to the film.

I made these ancillary tasks on the same platform - Microsoft publisher, this convergence makes the tasks look similar automatically.
I believe my film and my ancillary tasks compliment each-other well as they all reflect the film very well by showing, deprivation, rave lights, prison element with the bars and costumes in the photographs all correspond excellently with the film.

Evaluation Question 1 - IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

1st Prezi is how I used conventions

2nd Prezi is how I developed and challenged them
